Apple (ticker: AAPL) recently topped $2 TRILLION in market capitalization – making it now larger than the market capitalization of the smallest 194 companies in the S&P 500 combined. Why does that matter? – If Apple is up 1.0% in a day it would have the same effect on the S&P 500’s return as those smallest 194 companies EACH being up 1.0%. Look no further than the largest companies to understand how “the market” can be positive while the economy is in recession.
